Introducing Jonathan
Jonathan’s career in communications and investor relations spans 20 years and has taken him through some of the country’s most significant communications challenges. He’s developed a reputation for being direct, for commercial thinking and for bringing a refined sense of judgement and empathy to communications challenges and opportunities.
He's not a marketer and he's not overly interested in 'PR' stunts. He's passionate about aligning a company's strategy, culture and communications in order to deliver distinctive results.
Over the last 18 months, Jonathan has led the communications, consultation and stakeholder engagement process culminating in the successful initial public offer of Napier Port - the first substantive market listing on the NZX in more than two years. He has also provided strategic communications, government relations and investor relations services to the likes of Xero, Transpower, Genesis Energy, Drylandcarbon, the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network, Z Energy and a number of other clients - some at the forefront of social disruption.
Prior to setting up his own consultancy, Jonathan was an integral part of what was one of New Zealand’s great business success stories - turning an unloved multinational fuel company into one of New Zealand's most trusted and successful local companies.
Prior to leaving Z in 2017, the company had been widely recognised for setting new standards of communication and engagement, including: Deloitte Top 200 company of the year; a top three rating for Corporate Social Responsibility in New Zealand; a top two rating for Corporate Reputation in New Zealand; Aon Hewitt Top Employer, amongst others.
Jonathan has designed and led communications and international investor relations programmes, has led two IPOs, managed multiple liquidity events and managed communications around major commercial acquisitions and their subsequent integration. He's led communications, including community consultation and resource consenting, around multi billion dollar renewable electricity generation programmes and managed a range of complex and high-profile national issues.
In 2016, Jonathan was recognised as Corporate Communicator of the Year at the INFINZ Awards and has been recognised for his leadership in investor relations across Australasia.
He's designed and led community investment strategies and led the process to set multi-year environmental sustainability and carbon reduction targets for a major corporate. He;s designed and led advocacy programmes resulting in new government policy commitments.
Jonathan’s goal of helping organisations and people succeed through clear, well-considered and – above all – authentic communication led him to set up his own business in December 2017.
Jonathan lives in Wadestown with his wife, three-year old and one-year old daughters, German Shepherd dog and a 1971 Series Two Land Rover. He is particularly passionate about New Zealand and its natural environment.
Outside of his family, he spends some of his happiest moments fly fishing in wilderness rivers – that you can still drink from.
